“The ultimate test of self-discipline”: Lockdown and the NoFap community

NoFap is a community of mostly heterosexual men abstaining from what they see as an addictive cycle pornography, masturbation, and orgasm, induced by the exploitation innate male urges pornography industry. In general population, increased masturbation consumption are associated with psychological factors including low affect, loneliness, boredom, all which may be exacerbated lockdown/social distancing measures adopted in response to Covid-19 pandemic. The present study explores how has responded pandemic through discourse analysis online message board. We identify four key themes: i) I let go lockdown, ii) opportunity iii) testing parameters NoFap, iv) cohesion. Each defined discussed. Combined illustrate digital struggling honor its meritocratic masculine ideals face challenging circumstances.
